Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

Rating: 4/5

We are starting off the year with what turned out to be a great game that has been on my backburner for some time. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime starts with the fairly basic premise of saving the universe and wastes no time throwing you into the action. It's a co-op game for 1-4 people and this week I played with my boyfriend, Yavuz (who also did all of the web development for this blog).

This game is chaotic fun. You fly around in a spherical space ship with different stations: engine, guns, shields, etc. You have to juggle these different jobs as you fend off waves of enemies and rescue bunnies while navigating often treacherous terrain. It becomes challenging very quickly in a way that surprised us both. Here is where I believe some criticism is due. Sometimes you are just surrounded and there is no way to avoid taking large chunks of damage. I felt often we really needed more hands on deck. That said I'm not sure if it would slide too far into the other direction of too easy if we actually had 4 people playing, because some of the multitasking challenge would be lost. I would really like to try this game with a full crew.

All in all we had a blast playing Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and will most likely come back to finish it. We made it through the first area and mostly completed the second. I was reminded a lot of Overcooked, which we need to get around to finishing also.

See you next week!

Side notes:
This is a pretty short post but again the goal is not to do a deep in depth review of each game. I wound up not spending too much time on this so I feel confident I can keep this going!
